Spanish templates leave out accents on purpose: accented letters force a text into a format that holds fewer characters and can display incorrectly on some phones.
Tips for reminders that work
- Send more than one. A reminder a week out lets clients arrange a ride and time off work; the day-before text catches the ones who forgot. The default schedule in the Santa Clara County study was 7, 3, and 1 day before.
- Be specific about where. Many courthouses have several buildings. Include the street address and department or courtroom, not just "court."
- Ask for a reply. "Reply C to confirm" tells you who saw the message, so you know whom to call.
- Include family. A parent, spouse, or cosigner often handles the ride. With the client's permission, send them the reminder too.
- Keep the case out of it. Texts can be read by anyone holding the phone. Leave out charges, case numbers, and case details.
- No links. Many carriers filter automated texts that contain links.
- Get consent and honor STOP. Use our free SMS consent language for your intake forms.
Questions
What should a court date reminder text include?
The date, time, courthouse name and address, and department or courtroom, plus a way to confirm. Keep out charges, case numbers, and anything about the case itself.
When should court date reminders be sent?
Several reminders work better than one. A common schedule is 7, 3, and 1 day before the court date, which is what the Santa Clara County study used and what CourtRemind uses by default.
Do I need the client's permission to send reminder texts?
Get the client's consent to receive reminder texts, keep a record of it, and stop sending to anyone who replies STOP. See our free consent language for intake forms.
Should reminder texts include links?
Avoid them. Many carriers and text services filter or block automated texts that contain links, and clients are often wary of links from unknown numbers.
